Germaine first graduated in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney in 1999. I then spent most of my working life at Westmead hospital. Starting as an intern then commenced my Advanced training in Nephrology in 2004. I've just started my PhD in the Centre of Kidney Research at the Children's Hospital this year. My area of interests include: Cancer screening in dialysis and renal transplantation, and cancer in chronic kidney disease. Having found Epidemiology and Statistics as one of the hardest subjects in my undergraduate years, I am undertaking the Masters of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney as a tool to aid my research work.
One of the difficulties in research and medicine is balancing and juggling time between my 9 month old baby and work commitments. But I've found the research work both challenging and exciting.
